SGNIC-IPOS Programme FAQ

SGNIC-IPOS Programme (FAQs).

The SGNIC-IPOS Programme is a collaboration between SGNIC, the registry of .sg domain names and IPOS, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore that facilitates the checking of domain name availability and reserving a .sg domain name on IPOS’ IP application system.

1. Who qualifies for the free .sg name?

Each completed IP application for Trademark, Patent or Design made on IPOS Digital Hub eservice system is eligible for a free .sg or .com.sg domain name, subject to adherence to domain rules of registration. The name must be reserved on IPOS Digital Hub with a unique system’s issued application number.

2. What Top Level Domain Names can I reserve?

Only .sg and .com.sg domain names can be reserved in this programme. The reserved domain name will need to qualify under the rules of registration.

3. How do I claim my Reserved Domain Name?

Once you have reserved your domain name on IPOS Digital Hub, you will have a unique application number. In your Vooju account, navigate to: Activate Free IPOS .SG Domain and input your Reserved Domain Name and your IPOS application number and click: Activate Domain Name

4. How much do I need to pay to activate my Reserved Domain Name?

Activation of your Reserved Domain Name is free for your 1st year of registration. You may choose to renew your domain name registration at any time before the domain name expires.

5. I have not reserved my domain name, can I still reserve a domain name?

If you have not previously reserved a domain name, you may re-enter IPOS Digital Hub and follow the portal’s guidance to reserve a name.

6. Can I reserve more than one domain name?

You can only reserve one domain name for each application number issued by IPOS Digital Hub, for either .com.sg or .sg

7. How long is the reservation period?

The domain name is reserved for a period of 90 days. During this 90 day period, you will need to activate your domain name.

After the 90 day period has passed, the reserved domain name will be purged and made available for general registration on a first-come-first-served basis.

8. My Reservation period is over, can I reserve another Domain Name?

No, the IPOS Application Number can only be used to reserve a Domain Name once, regardless of whether the Reserved Domain Name has been activated or not.
